Job description

As a Researcher within our Intelligence Directorate, you will:

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation, ensuring intelligence and information are shared in line with all relevant standards.
  • Contribute to a team responsible for managing the flow and dissemination of information to support both intelligence and enforcement-related cases.
  • Evaluate, assess and record information from multiple internal and external sources and conduct research.
  • Accurately maintain management activity systems and operational records in accordance with legislation and guidance.
  • Input data and maintain record management systems, ensuring there is an effective record management and audit trail.
  • Verify and cross‑reference the validity of information to identify and communicate links between different data sources.
  • Carry out system checks to support our Intelligence Analysts, Officers, and colleagues across the organisation.
  • Using guidance and training material when researching and collating information to make the decision to disseminate cases.

About the team

It’s an exciting time to join the Intelligence team! The team consists of several people with a variety of skills focusing on ensuring an accurate register and preventing companies for carrying out unlawful activities or facilitating others to do so. As our Intelligence department continues to grow and develop, we have lots of opportunities available.

Where you will be working

You will be aligned to our Cardiff office, where you will be expected to attend on a regular basis. We are currently using a hybrid approach to the way we work which provides opportunities for you to be adaptable in the way you work so that you can achieve a healthy balance between your work and home life. The degree of choice you have will depend on your role and your day-to-day work activities. Your manager will agree regular patterns of attendance with you; however, you may be required to make yourself available to attend the office more frequently when required to meet business needs. Also, for the first few weeks, you may be required to attend the office full time to receive the necessary training.

Working Hours

Due to the nature of these roles and team structure, these are only full-time positions of 37 hours per week.

To be eligible for this role you also need to meet our Nationality requirements which are outlined below, and successful candidates must meet the security requirements for Security Clearance (SC) before they can be appointed. To gain (SC) you will need to have been a UK resident for a minimum of 3 years out of the last 5 years.

Person specification

We’re looking for individuals with practical experience of:

  • Research Skill, gathering information from a wide range of sources with an eye for detail.
  • The ability to consider the bigger picture and understand the importance and impact of information gathered.
  • Strong written communication and drafting skills.
  • Using Microsoft apps especially Excel and Word.
  • Working as part of a team, as well as working independently
  • The ability to make the best use of guidance and training material to make decisions when researching cases to disseminate to the correct areas.

And who also have:

  • Great communication skills – in both verbal and written communication
  • The ability to use information effectively to make well-informed recommendations
  • Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in response to changing workloads and show a willingness and enthusiasm to learn new skills.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment.
